Frequently Asked Questions

Insurance Questions

Q. Do you accept my Dental insurance?

A. We will submit an insurance claim as a courtesy to you. Your dental insurance is an agreement between your employer and the insurance company. You will need to be aware of the limitations of your plan. Some plans allow benefits to the provider of your choice (out-of-network) and others allow benefits only when a contract (or network) provider is seen.

Q. How do I know if my plan allows benefits to an out-of-network provider?

A. Refer to your benefits booklet or call your insurance company and ask if you have the freedom to choose a provider.

Q. Will I have to pay more by seeing an out-of-network provider?

A. Not necessarily. It depends on the fee schedule your insurance company uses. For example, if we charge $50.00 for an exam and your insurance company allows $50.00 for this procedure, covered at 100%, then your out-of-pocket expense is $0.
(We will submit a preauthorization to your insurance so that we will know what your out of pocket expense will be.)

Dental Check-up Questions

Q. How often should I see a dentist?

A. The American Dental Association (ADA) guidelines recommend visiting your dentist at least twice a year for check-ups and professional cleaning.

Q. What records should I have transferred to your office?

A. Your most recent x-rays (within one year).

Q. What happens at my first visit?

A. Dr. Matsui will review your medical and dental history, examine your teeth and gums, perform an oral cancer screening, take x-rays of your teeth as needed, and evaluate your jaw joint (TMJ- Temporomandibular joint). After the examination, we will discuss options for any necessary treatment.
